MCP SSH Agent lets an assistant operate remote machines over SSH. Its notable design choice is discovery: rather than requiring hosts, addresses and credentials to be configured again, it reads the user's existing ~/.ssh/config and ~/.ssh/known_hosts, so every host already reachable from the command line is immediately available by its familiar alias. Commands are executed by invoking the native SSH tools rather than a reimplemented SSH client, which the README cites as a reliability decision and which has a useful consequence — existing key agents, jump hosts, ProxyCommand entries and per-host options in the configuration all continue to apply. Tools cover listing discovered hosts and running commands on a chosen one, with output returned to the model. Installation is offered as an MCP Bundle: a .mcpb file downloaded from the releases page and opened to install into Claude Desktop, a format previously called a Desktop Extension with a .dxt suffix, with version 1.3.9 shipping both during the transition. It is TypeScript with tests in continuous integration. The security position is inherent to the function — an assistant with this server can run commands on every host in the user's SSH configuration, which for many developers means production. The audience is operators wanting conversational access to their fleet.
