Dolt is a SQL database with Git-like version control capabilities, enabling users to manage, version, and collaborate on data and schemas as easily as code in Git repositories.
Wren Engine is a semantic engine designed specifically for Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients and AI agents, enabling precise, context-aware access to enterprise business data with governance and interoperability. It addresses the challenges enterprises face in managing complex structured data stored across cloud warehouses, relational databases, and secure filesystems. The engine provides accurate semantic understanding of data models, trusted calculations and aggregations, clarity on business terms, and user-based permissions and access control, which are essential for AI to execute commands with precision and context in enterprise environments. The project supports a wide range of data sources including BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, local files, MS SQL Server, Minio, MySQL Server, Oracle Server, PostgreSQL Server, Amazon S3, Snowflake, and Trino. This broad compatibility ensures that Wren Engine can integrate seamlessly with modern data stacks. Wren Engine is part of the MCP ecosystem, which is an open standard connecting large language models (LLMs) with tools, databases, and enterprise systems. By embedding the semantic layer directly into MCP clients such as Claude, Cline, and Cursor, Wren Engine empowers AI agents with precise business context and ensures accurate data interactions across diverse enterprise environments. The engine is designed to be embeddable, interoperable, semantic-first, and governance-ready, supporting role-based access controls and definitions. This design philosophy enables scalable AI adoption across teams by enhancing automation with better understanding of business data. The project is currently in beta, with active development and biweekly releases. It consists of four main modules: ibis-server (a web server powered by FastAPI and Ibis), wren-core (the semantic core written in Rust and powered by Apache DataFusion), wren-core-py (Python bindings for wren-core), and mcp-server (the MCP server powered by MCP Python SDK). The community is active, with support available via Discord and GitHub issues.
