Confluent MCP Server is a TypeScript Model Context Protocol server maintained in the Confluent GitHub organization that lets an AI assistant operate Confluent Cloud, Confluent Platform and standalone Apache Kafka deployments in natural language. It provides more than 50 tools and works with any MCP client, including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Goose and Gemini CLI. Configuration is a YAML file: the CLI can scaffold one with the --init-config flag, after which the user fills in connection details and starts the server with --config. Which tools appear depends on which service blocks are present in the resolved configuration, and the repository documents the full mapping from block to tool. A handful of tools are always available with no authentication at all, covering documentation search and page retrieval plus diagnostics that explain why a tool is missing, list configured connections and the tools enabled on each, suggest the YAML needed to enable a specific tool, and describe a single connection. The authenticated tool set is grouped by category: Kafka tools list, create and delete topics, produce and consume messages, inspect and describe consumer groups, report lag and read or alter topic configuration; Flink SQL tools create, list and delete statements, fetch results and exceptions and discover compute pools; Flink catalog tools browse catalogs, databases and table schemas; Flink diagnostics tools run health checks, detect issues and profile queries; further categories cover connectors, Schema Registry and Tableflow. Several categories additionally support browser-based OAuth sign-in instead of provisioned API keys. Node.js 22.19.0 or newer is required, and the package is published on npm as @confluentinc/mcp-confluent under an MIT license. The README notes that Confluent also offers a fully managed MCP server and that this open-source project is community supported, without service level commitments.
