AWS MCP is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to enable AI assistants, such as Claude, to interact seamlessly with AWS environments using natural language. It ensures secure credential handling by using local AWS credentials without exposing them to external services, thus maintaining security and privacy. AWS MCP runs locally, leveraging the user's existing AWS credentials stored in the standard AWS configuration directory. The project requires Node.js and the Claude Desktop application for integration. Installation involves cloning the repository, installing dependencies, and configuring the Claude desktop app to connect to the MCP server. Users can then perform various AWS operations through natural language commands, such as listing EC2 instances, S3 buckets, Lambda functions, and ECS clusters. The project also supports multi-region AWS environments and is actively being developed to include features like Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) support and caching of SSO credentials to improve usability.
